Electroless Nickel is a process which deposits hard, smooth corrosion resistant coatings by chemical reduction.
It is generally used as a fast plating process for Engineering applications, e.g. pumps, gears, pistons and rollers etc.
Electroless Nickel can produce uniform coatings over complex shapes or where there are tight tolerances to work with.
Deposits of up to 80 microns can be achieved.
Electroless Nickel is also available in a Black Finish.
Black Nickel can be plated onto any metal and produces a thin jet black finish. It is suitable for applications that require a non reflective surface.
The thickness of the coating is less than 3 microns so if corrosive protection is required an undercoat of Zinc or Nickel will be necessary.
It is ideal for parts where a non-
is required.
It is thin (less than 3 microns) and if corrosion protection is required, will need a conventional nickel plated undercoat.
Black nickel plating is lustrous and has a black or dark grey colour. Plating is done with little or no agitation. Occasionally it is necessary to remove hydrogen gas (bubbles) from the part's surface using wetting agents.
The coatings average 2 microns thick and corrosion resistance is limited, therefore they are usually lacquered or coated with oil or grease. If the black nickel must have good corrosion resistance, an undercoating such as bright or dull nickel, zinc or cadmium is necessary.
Our Black finishes can be produced on a wide variety of metals including:
• Mild steel
• Stainless steel
• Aluminium
• Brass
• Titanium
